AKC Novice/Open Coursework Seminar Building Confidence & Skills for the Competition Ring This seminar is designed for dogs just beginning their competitive agility careers. The focus will be on creating positive, confidence-building ring experiences while helping both dog and handler avoid common pitfalls often encountered in early competition. Seminar Focus: • Developing solid handling choices for better timing and efficiency • Understanding when and why to use specific handling maneuvers • Incorporating novice/open-level obstacles: table, panel, triple, tire, long jump • Making the most of FEO runs—especially when your team isn’t quite “ring ready” • Using toys in the ring within AKC rules and regulations • Keeping confidence high and pressure low to lay the foundation for long-term success Additional Topics: • Warming up your dog and establishing a pre-run routine to ensure focus and readiness • Rewarding your dog post-run and creating a consistent cool-down routine This seminar is ideal for young dogs and novice teams preparing to enter the ring, as well as those already competing who want to build stronger clarity, connection, and confidence.
