BRATTY PAWS DOG PLEX - FOUNDATION 1 AGILITY CURRICULUM - K.Seiter 6/25 4/5 Week Course - the following outline is a suggested timeline for Foundation 1, but can be tailored to a particular group of students - Class taught in Matted area WEEK 1 ◦ Introduction to Clicker and Reinforcers (food, toys, praise, movement) ◦ Charging Clicker (pair the noise with a reinforcer)start with food. ◦ Cookie Toss using clicker ◦ Eye contact using the clicker (helps teach students timing) ◦ Name recognition with clicker ◦ Hand touch (with or without clicker) ◦ Beginner Flat work - reinforce dogs for staying on your side, reward tight rotations, make sure students work both sides - nice warm up for dogs ◦ Toy play - encourage students to play with their dogs. Find a favorite toy, teach proper toy play - puppy tugs ◦ Review, fast sits, down ◦ Tire obstacle recalls - Introduce the tire obstacle - click and reward with food/toys ◦ Homework - Practice clicker timing at home with exercises ◦ Ask students to bring a box that will fit their dog’s size WEEK 2 ◦ Review last weeks skills ◦ Teach dogs how to free shape in and out of a box ◦ Ladder work for coordination ◦ Circling around a cone - rotations clockwise and counter clockwise ◦ Target to something - start with food bowl, progress to MM or toys ◦ Stretches after dogs are warmed up ◦ Introduce Fit Paws equipment - get dogs to interact with them (no wobble board) ◦ Homework: Practice box and cone work WEEK 3 ◦ Review prior weeks skills ◦ Introduce front cross on leash ◦ Figure 8’s around cones ◦ Introduce Cavaletti work - work both sides ◦ Restrained Recall to side (work both sides) - dogs come to a sit position ◦ Sending dogs to the box - clicker timing - body awareness ◦ Restrained recalls to build drive (puppy tug should be suggested) ◦ Work all skills up to date, ask students to bring a crate next week. (3 crates available in matted area) WEEK 4 ◦ Review prior weeks skills ◦ Introduction to Plank Work (optional, elevate on one side) ◦ Perch work - sitting on the perches ◦ Introduction to crate games for sends and stays ◦ Introduction to platform work (using Cato Boards) ◦ Homework: Crate Games, perch work WEEK 5 ◦ Review all prior weeks exercises
